Running as a sport orginiated in ancient greece around 2,700 years ago.The first recored running for sport was a sprint from one side of the olympic games arena to the other.The earlierst recordings of joggings take place in the 16th century. Jogging was more commonly practiced by swordsmen preparing for battle. Running became its own Olympic discipline in 1896 making it a more common sport for people to particpate in. By 1897 the Boston Marathon was created.
